The flipping around between the characters was hard to keep track of at times. Personally, I don’t like Lena as much as the other characters because she’s more indecisive. I did not like that the novel spent a lot of time with Lena, although I understand why Brashares chose to do this: Greece is where Lena’s grandparents lived and it’s where the four main characters spent some time in one of the previous books. For example, I predicted that something unfortunate would happen in Greece. What I didn’t like about the novel was that at times it was predictable. I enjoyed how the novel flipped around between the characters and let the reader know what each character was doing. I enjoyed solving the mystery along with the characters. Brashares realistically portrays the various stages of grief that Bridget, Carmen, and Lena go through, from denial to anger to acceptance. Sometimes the quotes are sad and sometimes they are funny. The quotes sometimes give an indication of what to expect in the chapter. The quotes range from Emily Dickinson to Taylor Swift. I like how each chapter begins with a quote by somebody. It also depicts the difficulties of being an adult.Īnn Brashares does many things well in this novel. Sisterhood Everlasting shows readers that they should not abandon their friendships because of distance or whatever else may be keeping you and your friends apart. As someone who has virtually no friends, I wish I had friends like Bridget, Carmen, Lena, and Tibby. Sisterhood Everlasting emphasizes the importance of having friends.
